Summer Architectural Series: The Beloved Bungalow

Chicagoland is famous for our unique architectural style, and the bungalow style home is the perfect example of this. Although the bungalow style home originated in California, it was well suited to the narrow lots in Chicago and nearby suburbs.

Even though most bungalow style homes were built between 1910 and 1930, more than 80,000 bungalows still stand.

Bungalows actually represent almost a third of all single family homes in Chicago to this day!

One of the defining characteristics of a bungalow style home is a gently pitched roof, standing at about one and half stories. At Feze Roofing, Inc. ®, we know all about bungalows and the unique role of the roof system on this style of home. Because the roof is pitched slightly lower than many homes constructed today, the roof of a bungalow plays an outsized role in the curb appeal for these historic homes.

For example, check out these before and after photos from a recent roof replacement on a bungalow in Villa Park, Illinois. This home suffered storm damage, and Feze Roofing, Inc. ® and Storm Solutions Public Adjusters, Inc. were able to maximize their homeowner’s insurance claim, and replace this home’s main roof, garage roof, gutter and downspout system, siding, and soffit and fascia system. For this historic home, Feze Roofing, Inc. ® installed GAF Timberline HDZ in Charcoal.

Check out this beautiful transformation of one of Chicagoland’s most loved homes, the classic bungalow!
